Grapes Planting A Vine

Spread the love

Planting grape vines is reasonably straight forward. Vines do like their roots to be left in peace once they are planted, they also like to be able to spread their roots as far as they like. So basically they will like to be planted in their final position and not moved. They can be grown in large pots, but this may reduce their ability to bare fruit.

Vines can be planted anytime of the year, as long as the ground isnt frozen.

Soil Type and Position

Planting position is very important, vines can grow very large and this needs to be considered. If you are going to plant your vine outside there are a few things to consider.

Vines like lots of sun and like a south facing slope of well drained soil. This is not crucial but they do like their sun, the main thing is the well drained soil. Usually vines grow well in free draining stony or sandy soil.

If you dont have such soil, you can help your vine by digging in grit into the planting hole. This will help the roots to drain well.
