Here are some varieties which are easy to grow.

Oyster Mushrooms

If you are new to growing mushrooms, this is the variety to start with. There is a wide selection to chose from including King Oyster and pearl oyster. The mushrooms have a wide range of colours. Oysetr mushrooms are low maintenance and grow quickly.

Shiitake Mushrooms

This variety is well know in Asian recipes and is increasing in its use and popularity. Shiitake have been used in Chineese medicines for thousands of years. These mushrooms can be grown both in doors and outside. So if you do not have space inside, they will grow on log that is kept in a shady area.

This varierty can stand temperatires down to about 5 C and therefore can be grown in door or out side. They can be grown all year round inside, or can be harvested in summer and autumn when grown out doors. They favour indirect light.

Wine Cap

These mushrooms grow in the ground and therefore are great for growing in garden beds. The variety grows to a good size and is a hardy easy to grow choice for the outdoors. They grow fast and spread quickly on a wide range of substrates.

Pioppino

Pioppino are a fast growing mushroom and are very popular in the kitchen. They can be grown indoors on straw or outside on various substrates.

When grown inside, the variety will benefit from high humidity. It will fruit throughout the year indoors and in autumn outdoors.

White Caps

One of the most commonly available edible mushrooms, the white cap is a good place to start as a beginner. A lot of the grow it yourself mushroom kits contain this variety as they are easy to grow and do not require sun light, so good for indoors growing. This variety will crop throughout the year.

Lion’s Maine

This variety is growing in popularity due to its reported health giving properties. Lion’s mane is again very easy to grow and can produce lovely mushrooms quickly and easily. The mushroom grows well at room temperature and produces large round mushrooms all year round when grown indoors. It enjoys being grown in shade in temperatires between 15 and 20c, and appreciates being misted a couple of times a day.
